Manage your cash drawer
Open your register, track cash in and out, then close it
The Cash Register tab keeps your cash honest. Open the drawer with a starting float at the start of the day, record any cash that comes in or goes out, and close it with a count at the end. Every move is logged, so the drawer always matches your records.
Open the register
- Open the Register and go to the Cash Register tab.
- Select Open Register.
- Enter the opening float, the cash you start the drawer with.
- Choose who is opening it.
- Confirm.
The drawer is now open. A summary card shows your starting balance, your cash sales and your current balance as the day goes on.
Pay in and pay out
Pay in and pay out are for cash that moves in or out of the drawer that is not a sale. They keep your drawer count right without counting as takings, so your sales numbers stay true.
- Pay In adds cash to the drawer. Use it when you put money in, like topping up the float or returning petty cash. Enter the amount, who is doing it and a note.
- Pay Out takes cash out. Use it when you remove money, like paying a supplier in cash, buying milk for the salon or taking cash to the bank. Enter the amount, who is doing it and a note.
A pay-out cannot be more than the cash in the drawer.
Note: A pay in or pay out is not a sale. It moves your cash balance up or down, but it does not show in your sales or count as money earned. Use it only for cash going in or out of the drawer, never to record a service or a product. Ring those up in the Register tab.
See your balance history
The Cash Register lists every move on the drawer: the opening float, cash sales, pay-ins, pay-outs and the close. Open Balance History for the full record, and export it if you need a copy.
Close the register
At the end of the day, close the drawer to lock in the day's cash.
- In the Cash Register tab, select Close Register.
- Count the cash in the drawer and enter the closing count.
- SalonGrid shows the expected balance, so you can spot any difference.
- Add a note if anything needs explaining.
- Confirm to close.
Note: Opening and recording cash is open to your team. Closing the register is for managers and owners.
Tip: Open the drawer with the same float each morning. A steady starting amount makes the end-of-day count quick to check.
